Oodles of Doodles,
Part 2

Last week in LA, Tinlark Gallery opened the new Oodles of Doodles show to whats looks to have been a great crowd! I so wish I could have been there. If you look hard you can my You+Me print tucked away in the corner of one of the images. Woohoo! If your in the LA area from now to the end of May, do make sure to check it out.

Die Letterpress!

How cool are these prints! Brooklyn-based artist Stukenborg took 1,147 die and arranged them in various patterns to produce a total of 18 different prints. How jealous am I that he was able to use a big boy press like the Vandercook 32-28?… Very! These wonderful prints are available through Etsy.

Apollo 11 launch @ 500 fps… um, awesome!

Back in ’69 when the Apollo 11 crew decided it would be a good time to go to that big rock in the sky, someone down on the ground had the excellent idea to film the rocket boosters doing their thing upclose at 500 frames per second… My nerd senses are tingling!

Mobster v. Newcastle City Council

A collaboration piece by Mobster with the unwitting help of the Newcastle City Council… Good Stuff!

New inkjet color… Skin.

OK… This is weird! The US Armed Forces Institute of Regenerative Medicine have developed a way to take an ordinary ink-jet printer (in this case an HP) and use to to literally print skin cells on to a burn patient. As Keanu says… Whoa!

Earlier this year, LabTV spoke to one of the researchers who’s working on the project. Hopefully the technology gets in to civilian hands sooner than later. Check out the video…

Alphabet Explorer

Austrailian-based graphic designer Rhett Dashwood has scoured the landscapes of his home country, from the comfort of his desk, for typographic monuments and he has come back with a veritable treasure trove of goodies. Be sure to check out all of his findings here.

A dozen typefaces or a million?

John Boardley over at I LOVE TYPOGRAPHY has written an interesting entry in response to a recent video interview of Massimo Vignelli by Big Think about Mr. Vignelli’s assertion that the world only needs a dozen typefaces. In the entry Boardley respectfully disagrees with the design great and aptly argues why Vignelli is… well, wrong.

I highly recommend watching the video and reading Boardley’s response. It should make for an interesting discussion…

End of Level Boss by Tom Gauld

I love this print by London-based illustrator Tom Gauld. The illustration was originally included in a childrens book by Tom called The Gigantic Robot but this particular print was used for a Dutch independent music festival which makes it that much cooler!

Oodles of Doodles

If your in LA next weekend be sure to stop by Tinlark Gallery. They’ve put together a huge collection of illustrations, prints and compositions from 50 artists all over the country, including myself (YAY!). Sounds like the opening is going to be a aweseome time. I wish I was bi-coastal right now so I could go! Be sure to check out their site for more details.

Clever? Indeed!

My friend Katie just posted a great video about the new Puma shoebox, dubbed the “clever little bag” on her blog (DesignKlog). The new packaging, designed in conjunction with FuseProject, is incredibly smart and functional. It’s sure to get the approval of greenies everywhere. Nice!
